A woman in another state recently claimed that a medical professional at a naval hospital left an anesthesia needle in her spine after she went through a Cesarean section 14 years ago. She has thus decided to file a medical liability claim against the government, seeking damages. Anyone in Kentucky who is a victim of anesthesiology errors likewise has the right to seek justice through the civil court system.
The woman asserted that she had spent the past 14 years suffering pain in her back and had received multiple misdiagnoses. However, in November of 2017, a CT scan revealed that a needle was lodged in her spine. The needle was three centimeters long and had caused her to suffer permanent nerve damage.
The woman claimed that, as a result of the needle, she has experienced chronic sciatica on her left side. She has also been suffering from lower back pain and hip pain. Doctors told the woman that, unfortunately, since the needle has been stuck in her spine for so long, removing it would be too risky.
Doctors and other health care staff in Kentucky are expected to exercise a reasonable degree of care when tending to patients. Sadly, this does not always happen. If a patient suffers harm due to a doctor’s anesthesiology errors, he or she has the right to file a medical malpractice claim in an effort to hold the health care provider accountable. A successfully fought claim may lead to a monetary damage award that might help to cover ongoing medical costs, the loss of wages and other losses stemming from this type of documented medical malpractice incident.
