Dealing with any type of medical issue can be frightening. When individuals are uncertain about what the problem is, this lack of information may cause them to feel even more anxious. As a result, Kentucky residents who feel unwell may seek medical attention in order to gain information from professionals. However, if a misdiagnosis occurs, individuals could suffer even more.

A serious issue that could cause substantial complications if left untreated is sepsis. Sepsis can typically occur when a patient’s body is attempting to fight off a serious infection. Usually, infections of the lungs, skin, kidneys and abdominal organs are more susceptible of causing sepsis. Unfortunately, if sepsis goes untreated, it can easily cause organ damage or prove fatal.

When on the look out for sepsis, medical staff should watch for several symptoms. Some of those symptoms include confusion, extreme pain, clammy skin, shortness of breath and high heart rate. Doctors will want to pay attention to individuals over the age of 65, children under the age of 1 and individuals with compromised immune systems as they are highly susceptible to developing sepsis.

Because of the substantial damage sepsis can cause, if a doctor misdiagnoses the issue or provides the wrong treatment, a patient could easily face life-altering or life-ending damage. If Kentucky residents suffered themselves or lost loved ones due to a doctor’s misdiagnosis, they may wish to consider taking legal action. Information on medical malpractice claims may help them determine whether it could suit their circumstances.
