Certain halogen light bulbs are hazardous consumer products

On Behalf of | Apr 10, 2018 | Product Liability

Consumers in Kentucky who have purchased certain halogen light bulbs may be affected by a recent product recall. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, GTC halogen light bulbs by H-E-B are hazardous consumer products that should not be used. These value-priced light bulbs were sold between Aug. 2015 and Dec. 2017.

Officials reported that the halogen light bulbs have the potential to shatter while being used. Fire and laceration hazards are possible with these products. So far, the safety commission has received a total of 14 reports regarding bulbs that shattered.

One consumer reportedly cut his hand due to the shattering of the light bulb. In addition, another consumer suffered a burn on one of his hands, as well as a cut on one of his feet due to the dangerous light bulbs. Consumers who have purchased these bulbs can return them to the store and receive refunds for them.

According to the CPSC, injuries, deaths and property damage resulting from hazardous consumer products costs over a $1 trillion annually in the U.S. Unfortunately, companies sometimes place dangerous products on store shelves, and consumers in Kentucky and elsewhere end up suffering injuries due to using these products. In these situations, the injured victims may choose to file product liability claims against the manufacturers, and/or others in the supply chain, seeking the reimbursement of financial damages. A successfully litigated claim might result in a monetary judgement that may help to cover medical bills, loss of wages and other financial losses resulting from the use of the defective product.
